Super Bowl 2018 Ads

I love ads.. So I took it upon myself to brutally critique every ad from the Super Bowl.  However, it occurred to me that if I published those merciless opinions online, I'd be kissing my chance to work in the ad industry goodbye!  So instead, I've decided to only publish opinions of ads I enjoyed.

If you are confused about why you don't see one of your favorite ads on my list, @me... Because I definitely have a great reason why it's not on the list and I definitely can't wait to tell you about it.

Here we go! (No particular order)
Sprint - Evelyn: Made me laugh. AI is taking over and it was cool that Droga used this popular subject to feature a robot, a representation of logic and reason, to question this man's cellular network.

Turkish Airlines - 5 Senses: I thought this ad presented an interesting and original concept for an airline. Traveling is a great way to utilize all senses.  The writing and visuals kept me engaged. (It would have really won my heart if TBWA used Bill Nye though, he is a much better liked and trusted personality).

Tide - It's a Tide Ad: Oh.... My.... GOD DID I LOVE THESE. I watch these over and over and smile every time. Tide, P&G, Saatchi, THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THESE ADS INTO THE WORLD. The idea, execution, casting were all absolutely PERFECT. You couldn't have chosen a better star. "If it's clean it's a Tide Ad" opens the door to TONS of possibilities and executions forever. I can't wait to see where this idea goes next!! "Does that make every Super Bowl ad a Tide ad?" Absolutely GENIUS! Way to make everything about you, Tide. I LOVE IT!

E*TRADE - This is Getting Old:  Okay, I liked this one. I thought the idea was smart and worked in displaying the problem E*TRADE is solving.  Most retirement fund ads show the relaxing side of retirement.  The side we're allllllll looking forward to.  This gives us the expectation that when we're older, we can retire and RELAX.  But according to this ad, over ONE THIRD of Americans don't have the funds to retire!  MullenLowe did a great job of showing (and exaggerating) what that means for those people through super old people holding absurd positions.  Retirement isn't something that's given to us, it's something we work for.  This ad really got that idea across.

Rocket Mortgage - With Key: Thoroughly enjoyed!  Key was the perfect star!  I thought the writing was witty and funny.  The scenarios were cool and current.  Not a crazy original/groundbreaking idea, but the execution was one of a kind so this ad will surely be remembered!

Jeep - The Road: I loved the idea and the writing. "The road is someone else's idea"  "The road always ends, and this is where some of our best stories begin".  Very cool idea!  I think it's a great foundation for an entire campaign!  I hope they keep stretching it to its potential!

Avocados From Mexico - GuacWorld: This ad was so odd. I fucking hate odd ads.  It made me wonder "Who the HELL thinks of this, and how did this idea get approved and executed!?!?" But I'm so glad it was made because I loved it so fucking much.  The scenario is crazy, but the commercial had me laughing out loud!

Kia Stinger - Feel Something Again: Listen, I really liked this one.  I like the thought that was put into it.  It seems to be targeting the baby boomers.  A generation who were teens and young adults back when Aerosmith first came about.  They watched Steven Tyler age, just as they did and probably look back at that era of their life as their wilder days.  Using a car as a vehicle for time travel to youth is interesting.  Because that's exactly what people do when they splurge on their "Mid life crisis vehicle".  They want to feel young again, seen, noticed.  I get how some people think it's depressing, but I think it's an interesting concept and clever execution.
